I want to share a secret with you. It’s a private game I created years ago. It gets me unstuck. It’s a way for me to be creative and positive, with my inner dialogue in the face of the massive amount of BS, we are all
enduring these days.
Some of you know how much I love renovating houses. I guess I just can’t help myself—-seeing something one way—-then envisioning what it could be with just a tweak or two…making it feel brand new.
Truth be told, I’m sorta lazy. This little game of “renovation” becomes an easy way to turn commonly used idioms and acronyms, many of which have a negative spin, into positive personal triggers, supporting my own inner world.
This little “inside job” game, I call “KNOW-KNOW’s”.
Anyone can play. As a matter of fact, once you see HOW it’s played, you can make up all kinds of new ways to “renovate” words and acronyms ….that are meaningful, just to you. It can be your own little secret too….watch out for the little power surge that comes with knowing that YOU know this very personal world you are creating.
Words work, but I still think commonly used acronyms provide the most fun.. Does it seem like everything that can be abbreviated IS these days? Why not have your way with them as your very own personal propellers and amusement? Here are a few of my current favorites:
FYI, usually means FOR YOUR INFORMATION.
Now, it becomes my personal reminder… FIND YOUR INSPIRATION or
FUEL YOUR IMAGINATION
BTW, usually means BY THE WAY. Also, according to the company, Cyber Definitions, “BTW is typically used to change the subject during a conversation. It can be used as a preamble or postamble to signify the change of subject.”
Who knew? So glad, someone is taking the time to illuminate these things further for us.
But, now, every time I see it, I think BETTER THE WORLD.
CIA is usually thought of as the Central Intelligence Agency, the arm of the government which purports to protect us from any nefarious national security risks with nefarious activities of their own.
For me, CIA also stood for my time using all kinds of pots, at the Culinary Institute of America boot camp. Learning and cooking up 20,000 calories a day and a newfound love for elastic waistbands!
But now, CIA becomes COMPASSION IN ACTION. When the inner critic starts those sabotaging messages, I remember, CIA and silence that voice with love and compassion…even better when I can do that with someone who can be hard to love!
Then there’s PC….The first time this acronym was being used it related to the PERSONAL COMPUTER (You may not have been born yet.) Then, it took on another life in recent years as POLITICALLY CORRECT.
I went wild with this one…..See what I mean.
PC—PERSONAL COURAGE—-What requires my personal courage today?
PC—PEACEFUL CRUSADER—-Is there something I passionately need to change? Can I do it with grace? And not give up when the going gets tough?
PC—PERSONAL CONFIDENCE—-What can I reinforce or let go of to increase my authentic self-confidence?
WTF—-Unfortunately, this term has found its way into our cultural vocabulary, much too much the last few years. Do I need to dignify its meaning and spell it out for you? Nah, didn’t think so.
Now, WTF could become WANTING TO FLOURISH.
That has a nice ring to it, doesn’t it? Yes, I thought you’d think so.
It could also become WHERE’S THE FOOD?
So, that’s it. That’s KNOW-KNOW's…the game you can play
anytime, anywhere.
On the surface, it seems creative, clever, and fun. But actually, it really is a serious turnaround, for so much stuff flying through our everyday lives. It provides you with the chance to come up with so many ingenious ways to re-tool and re-set our inner world, when we might be feeling bombarded by the outer world. It’s a game meant
JUST FOR US.
We are STILL in charge of our own thoughts, aren’t we.
Please, please share some of your KNOW-KNOW's with me! Let's see how much you can empower and amuse yourself with new ways to think about the same old, same old.
